My Favorite Technology: Promethean Board with ActivExpression

I think the ultimate technology for the classroom is a Promethean Board with ActivExpression Student Response devices.  I have not had the luxury of having one of these systems in my classroom full-time, but have used a shared system. However, I think this would be on most teachers technology wish list. The Promethean Board itself is the ultimate interactive whiteboard. When used correctly (its not a fancy chalkboard!!!) it can help bring the mathematical concepts I teach to life for my students. It promotes Active Discovery Learning and allows more opportunities to engage students from all levels of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. The ActivExpression student response devices allows for instant assessment of learning and more engagement. All students have a device that allows them to digitally answer questions in multiple formats from multiple choice and true/false to open-ended short answer questions. To be able to instantly check for understanding from all students is wonderful for math!  Below are links and videos for more information on Promethean Products.

  2. My favorite technology was also the Promethean Board. It is a great interactive tool that keeps students eager and motivated to learn. I find that students more willingly participate when this type of technology is involved. I have had one in my classroom for four years and I don't know how I ever made it without it.

  3. Do you assign a specific clicker to each student? If so, can the clickers be used in more than one class?

    1. Yes, to the best of my memory I have just seen them used twice. Each clicker is assigned a number. You can create classes within the software in which each clicker is associate with a student. So before you begin you "log into" the current class and all the data is stored under that class. The software does a lot of stuff. More than one could ever use or understand completely

  4. I had never heard of the Promethean Board until I started reading everyone's blogs. We use interactive Smartboards at our school which seem very similar. I enjoyed the video you provided, and would like to learn more about these interactive tools. Anything we can do as educators to get our students involved is ok with me!

  6. The ActivExpression student response devices were wonderful to use for assessments. The students could quickly see their results without waiting and you are still able to print the results for documentation. I taught 3rd grade at the time and my students were excited to use the devices because they felt they were texting on a cell phone. I highly recommend the devices if you have the Promethean Board.

  7. I am so glad that you have had the opportunity to use both the Promethean board and ActivExpression devices. They are both amazing tools to have access to. I am glad that you don't view it as a fancy chalkboard! I hope you will put this on your wishlist and actually get one mounted in your classroom one day!
